This page will help guide you through the steps needed to get started on obtaining your CDL.

A DOT physical is a federally required medical exam that ensures commercial drivers are physically qualified to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle; you can find a certified medical examiner near you using the FMCSA National Registry at https://nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov/search-medical-examiners.

To obtain your CDL permit at the BMV, you must pass the required written exams and pay a $17 permit fee; Class B applicants must pass General Knowledge and Air Brakes, while Class A applicants must pass General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combinations. Once issued, the permit must be held for 14 days before testing, although training may begin immediately, and you are required to carry a physical copy at all times.

You can get a 5-panel drug screen at Parkview Clinics; if you’re part of a company’s random drug testing program, your HR department can provide a letter confirming your participation instead.
